QUALITY ARIZONA PAINT COATING APPLICATIONS …EVERY TIME

Rhino Shield Application Steps

The Rhino Shield System is second to none in the industry and is the reason we can guarantee the life of your new Arizona exterior for so long. The steps below represent the typical process of an Arizona application, but please note, every home and building is unique and some steps may be done differently or additional steps may be required.

1. THOROUGH INSPECTION

It is critically important that a thorough inspection is done to determine the condition of the underlying substrates and what preparation work will be needed. A plan is created to accomplish the whole project successfully.

2. REPAIR

Rhino Shield repairs the stucco or other exterior before as in important part of the preparation. Stucco repair and preparation for the primer is key to the success of the coating. Our Exterior Experts know stucco exteriors and know how to bond, seal and protect them.

3. PREP WORK

All loose paint, stucco or debris is removed and the surface is prepped for application.

All areas which are not to be coated are masked off, covered, or temporarily removed (such as lighting fixtures, mailboxes, drainpipes, utility boxes, etc.) Special attention is given to plants, lawns, decks, windows, and other areas prone to overspray.

Installation FAQ

Each crew will have a crew lead and they will give you their contact information at the start of every project. If you have any questions or concerns, you can reach out to our Project Managers, they are now your point of contact during production.
The adhesive primer sealer is specifically designed to perform in conjunction with Rhino Shield's durable finish coat and our flat roof coating. APS is ideal for residential and commercial exterior painting applications. Our transparent primer may be applied to most substrates. It goes on like a milky white then it dries clear. It looks much like a rich latex paint except it is slightly thicker in viscosity. It will, however, maintain the look and textural characteristics of your building material. It is typically sprayed using professional paint spraying equipment. It can also be rolled or brushed if necessary.
Rhino Shield will naturally fill small stucco cracks (1/16” or smaller) using the two-step process. Larger cracks may require an application of a stucco patch prior to applying the Rhino Shield system. Once applied, Rhino Shield will help reduce future cracking due to the bonding properties of the adhesive primer and the ceramic finish. Crew makes the best attempt to match existing texture but be advised some patch work may show and large areas of existing stucco issues should be addressed by a stucco company prior to Rhino Shield application.
It is imperative that Rhino Shield be applied to acceptable condition wood. Your applicator will repair or patch wood if possible but never to the point where it will cause the system to fail over time. If it is determined any wood must be replaced, the problem areas needing replacement would be highlighted and you will be provided a quote for wood replacement when the crew is onsite.
We recommend you place small samples on the house, and we match the color and code. The darker colors (Deep Base, Clear base) are not recommended in AZ. Once you have found your color: A. We make a 5-gallon bucket of the chosen color B. Then we will put it on an area of your house for you to see and sign color confirmation form
In Arizona we use a Matte finish. This may look a little shinier than a flat paint initially, but it dulls down into a flat appearance which helps hide imperfections and last longer in the southwest.
The first step in this process to getting your colors approved by your HOA is to know who your HOA is or is managed by. What their rules/ regulations/ restrictions are for your community and if they may already have a pre-approved list of colors available. If you do not know who your HOA is, then you can find them either on your monthly HOA bill or you can google your (city's county name) county assessor properties and search your property address or name of the owner. After you contact them asking for the correct forms to approve your desired colors and to describe what you wish to accomplish along with the color names you would like to use. Take note that this process of approving colors may take anywhere from 7 - 30 days to receive approval. What you can do to help make this process faster and more efficient is to stand by your HOA’s pre-approved colors and to avoid having a similar color to that of your neighbors’ homes. Most importantly, you should always document everything with your HOA and follow the process by the books.
Our crews vary in size, but most of our crews are 2 - 3 people. We do look at the photos, contract, and spec sheets to determine the crew for your project. There is always a lead installer who will be your contact person on-site. Be assured our installation teams are seasoned and qualified installers. The time that it takes to complete each project varies. Your crew can give you an estimated completion time frame, but there are many variables, weather being one of the most unpredictable.
Some steps may be completed in different order depending on the project for example some caulking may be done prior to tape removal. 1. THOROUGH INSPECTION 2. REPAIRS 3. SANDING AND SCRAPING 4. CAULKING 5. MASKING 6. PRIMING (APS application) 7. APPLY THE FINISH COAT 8. DETAIL FINISH TOUCH-UP 9. CLEAN UP JOB SITE 10. FINAL INSPECTION
Not during the entire project. The first day the crew lead will reach out so we can do a walk through and get color confirmation. On some occasions we may need to open the doors to remove weather stripping when doors are ready for coating. We ask that you communicate with the crew lead on what areas you need access to so we can accommodate your preferences.
We accept cash, check, and credit cards (with a 3% fee). We also offer financing prior to start through Finance of America. Once your project is complete, please call Finance of America (844-722-7759) to inform them the job is complete. The crew lead will ask for mid-payment after APS is applied (if your contract is for $15,000 or more). After the final walk through and the job is completed, the crew will have closing paperwork and collect the final payment. The office will close out your file and mail your warranty within 30 days.
To protect your Rhino Shield investment, it is recommended that you perform annual cleaning maintenance. This will not only keep your home looking beautiful but also help your Rhino Shield system remain free of harmful airborne dirt and microorganism growth. We recommend cleaning your walls annually to remove surface dirt and stains.
